The things Jon and Yu-Ming do with my camera
Jon and Yu-Ming took my camera for a recce somewhere early this month. They were searching for "wide, open spaces" and they made an expedition to Tanjung Karang with Aaron.
Looks like something out of a postcard, doesn't it? Wish I tagged along that day. I would've made them sit there with me till the sun had fully set...

Who wants to pop my cherry?
And I was thinking of acting all macho and GI Jane by going on my maiden backpacking trip this coming holidays.
Somewhere between mid-November to mid-January would be good.
I gotta warn you first:
- I don't know how much it costs
- I don't know where to go
- I don't know how long it's gonna take
- I think I can provide loads of entertainment
- I'm not afraid of getting grubby and grimy and squatting down by the longkang to have my meals
- I honestly don't mind walking
Please?

And the curtain closes
I was pretty excited actually. I haven't seen the video yet.
And the idea of seeing myself chuck panties into an aquarium filled with a pig's heart and a picture of Fallen Leaves is highly appealing.
I got a little lost on the way cos I was never good with directions anyway. And I had to park my car some distance away from the bungalow. And I had to walk all by myself. On Hungry Ghost Festival. In the dark. Alone. With these things hanging in that huge tree outside the bungalow. Darn those artists.
Ben and Jessie were there. Sweet. Those two are inseparable, I'm telling you. And they become a pair of nitwits when they're together. But I like them all the same.
Of course, James was there. Look closely at the picture and you'll see that he broke an A-string. I didn't know what it was. Albert told me.
And then during the Q&A session, someone commented that "the chick in the video is pretty psychotic". Thank you, whoever you are.
Although I'd like to act all artsy and intelligent and in the know of things in the art scene, I have to be honest and say that I was only there because I wanted to watch the video. Of course, there were other good videos, too. Coupled with some kick-ass musicians who sang live.
I just didn't like the way the curators dished out their criticism. They were way too harsh. And believe me, if I wanted to encourage young people to delve into art, I wouldn't say something like, "I think that's an absolutely lazy piece of work."
Maybe I'm just not artsy enough to tell a lazy piece from a blood-sweat-and-tears piece. Maybe I should learn to take criticism with a pinch of salt. Or maybe, just maybe, the curators have put themselves on a higher pedestal than the rest of us.
You tell me.

A hop and a skip away
They're nice pictures. I think. Maybe. I hope.
Armed with my *verysmall* wad of Singaporean Dollars. I felt so grown-up , I'm telling you. It's been far too long since I'd been out of Malaysia.
I was made to take this picture. Jon made me do it. And I had to crouch in the backseat of his Frontier to do it so as to appear completely inconspicuous.
See see see? That's my passport Jon's holding. This is the result of spending the last 8 years of my life cooped up in this country.
One of the first pictures I took when we got to Singapore. Sunset. Funny how it looks different across the causeway.
Those Singaporeans have funny traffic lights. I wonder if the smaller one is for motorcyclists. It looks like a toy.
Back here in Malaysia, pickup trucks are actually used as cars. I think Singapore has the ugliest pickups. Ever. And they carry passengers in the back. Max 10 pax, it said.
The street wasn't all that short actually. What a hoax.
This funny-looking lorry was parked across the road. Notice how small the rear tyre is compared to the one in front? I wondered out loud it'd turn turtle doing a U-Turn. Yu-Ming said no.
In Malaysia, I go to 7-Eleven to buy my cigarettes. I'm not sure what Singaporeans do in 7-Elevens over there. Those things are huge. They have toys. Clothes. Shoes. Souvenirs. They're like boutiques. Weird.

To beat the haze
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Hardcover. All mine. Eat your heart out.
*skips around in glee while clutching book to chest*
You see, I'd been wanting this book since, like, forever. But considering that I'm perpetually penniless, I'd been meaning to set up a fund for it. Besides, HBP will only be available in paperback sometime next year, I was told. I was thinking of waiting for it.
And then.
Josh took me out to dinner last night and bought it for me.
I was squealing a lot. I was grinning like a buffoon. I swear that gap between my two front teeth had never got that much exposure in one night.
It dawned on me why he was insistent on going to MPH after dinner. And it dawned on me why he kinda disappeared for a while when we were in there.
I felt a little guilty because it was only before dinner that I was telling him about how I'm halfway through the ebook already and how I'm planning to buy the real thing later. And right after he rang up his purchases, I was pulling a long face because I found out that the paperback edition will be available only next year.
And then he said to me.
"Hardcover also can read mah, right?"
So being the donkey I was, I started on how I have everything else in paperback and blahblahblah.
"Then should I go return the book and make you wait?"
*melts*
I love it when he springs surprises on me.
*sighs contentedly*

2 weekends ago
Was in JB 2 weekends ago to shoot MMDS JB. It had been a lot of fun. Weather was awesome. I had a hotel room complete with a double bed, TV, bathtub and a view...all to myself. Yes, yes. You may all eat your heart out. Right about...now.
*cacklecackle*
So anyway. While everyone were busy with preparations for MMDS JB, I was lounging around in the hotel doing thingsthatarefrownedupon.
Like this, for instance. Finger's not mine. Big finger courtesy of Jon. Picture courtesy of Yu-Ming.
Then Jon took a similar picture of Yu-Ming. And it looked like YU-MING HAD A REAAALLY BIG eye.
Then I took a picture with Geoff. Don't be deceived by that boyish grin of his. He's actually a whole *gasp* decade older than I am.
Yes, yes. The Geoffrey Kronenburg with multiple piercings and a million tattoos. And a penchant to attract homosexual men. Don't ask me why *shrugs*
More picture of MMDS JB right here. Courtesy of photographer Greg.
What? I can't possibly be lugging 2 cameras around right?

I must post
This is my favorite silly cat. His name is Ilford. He's such a manja baby. Purrs and purrs and purrs and purrs all day. Lazy cat. Chases ants. Which are about the slowest ever insects you can find in the garden. Silly cat. Loves giving me kisses *melts*
Got my long overdue manicure last week. About time. The manicurist was complaining about how my nails are in super bad shape. Cracks here and stains there *shy* But look~it's all nice and shiny and painted now. Yay~
